The Knowledge is a side mission in Watch Dogs: Legion. It is unlocked by speaking to Nowt in the Safehouse.

Plot

Nowt recently moved into the DedSec Safehouse, so that she can continue her work with DedSec and the 404. She just heard about a hit-and-run by a black cab, but the news did not report on it. The operative goes to investigate the incident at Russell Square in Camden. They find an exploded London Taxi, as well as a dead body. After hacking the body, Bagley finds that the person downloaded code with the cab, which Bagley finds to be poorly written and amateurish. Attached to the code is a comment consisting of an unfinished bit string, and another operative questions whether someone is tampering with the cab’s AI and using them to run down civilians.

To be sure of this, the operative hacks and downloads data from black cabs to try and finish the bit string. After hacking two taxis, Bagley finishes the string and unlocks an audio file, where a man can be heard talking to a woman about how Broca Tech employees are being run over by their own creation, but the woman insists that Skye Larsen knows what is best for her company, so the autonomous taxis will remain operational. The cab AI is being run by one of Skye Larsen’s neural mapping victims, and they are turning the cabs against their creators to get revenge on Broca Tech and its employees. The operative hacks one final taxi to obtain the location of the cab’s AI: a parking garage in Westminister.

They arrive at the London Carriage Service in the City of Westminster in order to stop the AI from killing Broca Tech employees and set another one of Skye Larsen’s victims free. The operative begins to erase the AI, but it is continuously interupted by the signal being blocked, and a male voice pleads with the operative to try and stop the erasure. Regardless, the operative stops the block by destroying a vehicle jammer to continue the erasure. After the erasure is complete, Bagley informs the operative that every black cab in London has came to a stop; after which it immediately restarts – most likely due to a backup system.

Black Cab Audio File

A meeting between an Albion Lieutenant and a Broca Tech Executive. The recording reveals Broca Tech's awareness of the dangerous Black Cab AI and their refusal to disable it to protect their profits.

Albion Lieutenant: With all due respect, these are Broca Tech employees, your employees, being run over by your product. Don't you want what's best for your employees? Broca Tech Executive: Skye Larsen knows full well what is best for her employees, Lieutenant, and that is why the black cabs will remain operational. Albion Lieutenant: But surely taking the cabs offline wouldn't affect your bottom line- Broca Tech Executive: All we ask is for Albion's cooperation as we resolve the situation internally. Let us worry about our bottom line.
