The Salesforce Tower, formerly known as the Transbay Tower, is a 1,070 ft supertall office skyscraper in San Francisco, California, that appears in Watch Dogs 2.

History[]

The tower was completed (in-game) in 2016, some time before the events of the main story. As such, in-game it is the most recent skyscraper completed in the San Francisco skyline.

In-game[]

Although not being featured in any operations, the building can be visited at any time (interior not accessible). The building is located in the east side of the Financial District, nearby the Transbay Transit Center. The building is visible from as far away as Marin, and the Golden Gate Bridge making it one of the most prominent structures that make up the contemporary San Francisco skyline. Unlike the Willis Tower, Aon Center, Transamerica Pyramid or any other landmark that is named after a real life company, the building is unnamed in-game likely to prevent any copyright disputes with its namesake company, Salesforce. However its lack of in-game naming could be that since the development of the game, the property's name had changed from its original Transbay Tower moniker.

The structure is of a contemporary curtain wall glass and steel design, with blue reflective windows and white painted steel, a stark contrast from its real world counterpart. The building also has chamfered corners giving it the appearance of eight intersecting isosceles triangles. It is assumed that the Salesforce Tower in-game is also a part of a similar urban redevelopment project like the Transbay Redevelopment Project as the adjacent 181 Freemont Street (also the location of Dusan Nemac's condo) appears albeit also unnamed. Despite its prominence in the city, it plays no important role in the storyline and interestingly it is not a landmark of interest on ScoutX.

Trivia[]

  • Salesforce Tower is clearly based on the real life Salesforce Tower in San Francisco. The tower is not named in-game, possibly due to copyright and licensing issues for Ubisoft.
  • Although in-game, the skyscraper is completed by 2016 (when Watch Dogs 2 takes place), the actual skyscraper did not finish construction until 2018, along with the Transbay Transit Center that also had finished construction at the same time.
  • The exterior design of the in-game version of the building seems to be heavily inspired by One World Trade Center in New York City, specifically the chamfered corners and plain glass curtain wall.
