Permadeath is an optional feature introduced in Watch Dogs: Legion

Permadeath functions as a hardcore mode. When it is enabled, the player will be given a choice between two options after their character is gunned down for the first time:

  • Resist, where they'll be given a second chance to escape but at the risk of permanently losing their character if they are gunned down again.
  • Surrender, where the character will be arrested or hospitalized for a certain amount of time.

If permadeath is turned off, the character won't die in any way and the game will just function the same as the surrender option.

  • In multiplayer, permadeath is disabled completely to prevent griefing.
  • Permadeath was originally the default feature, unable to be turned off. However, it was changed to be optional so the game could fit well for both casual and hardcore players.
