Digging Up the Past is the fourth story mission in Watch Dogs: Legion, and the third and final mission in the DedSec Chapter "Squad Goals".

Plot[]

TOAN Attack Site[]

DedSec learns of an encrypted signal that is being emitted out of the TOAN Attack Site, one of the places involved in the bombings from months prior. Players can use a Construction Worker-occupation Operative or an Albion-occupation Operative to infiltrate the area, as using either will give you uniformed access to the site, which makes stealth a little more easier.

Upon reaching the TOAN site, the player finds the source of the signal to be coming from a leg of a damaged Spiderbot located in the underground carpark. However, it is not immediately clear on why the leg was there or who it belonged to, so Bagley requests the player to access surveillance data from 3 locations around the area so that he could build an AR Reconstruction.

After gathering enough data for an AR Reconstruction, the reconstruction is played out, and three people can be seen in the reconstruction. One of them was anticipating the arrival of the two other unidentified people, who had brought a payload of unidentified material with them. The AR Reconstruction is paused, and the player analyses the trio. Initially, through a line of dialogue in the reconstruction, it was believed that Clan Kelley could have been behind the bombings, but another operative suggests that Clan Kelley was actually just the supplier. However, based on the interaction between the person and the other duo, the player infers that they were not well acquainted, which opens the possibility that the other single person could not be a part of Clan Kelley.

In order to dig deeper to figure out their identity, the player analyses a secretly hidden Spiderbot that was obscured in a vent above the trio in the AR Reconstruction. Bagley is able to determine that the signal the Spiderbot was emitting was actually a call code used by the Metropolitan Police Service. The AR Reconstruction continues, however the rest of the reconstruction is blocked by rubble. As a result, the player uses a Spiderbot or a Drone to go through a vent to access the rest of the reconstruction.

After using the Spiderbot to reach the area that was caved in by rubble, the player analyses the cargo of a nearby van in the reconstruction. It is revealed that the cargo contains RDX nitrogen, which was the same detonator system used in the bomings. After the Kelley members place the payload in the van, the other yet-to-be-identified person asks if they were also hired to supply the rest of the targets around London, only to be met with a resounding refusal to answer. After analysing the trio once more, the player and Bagley comes to the conclusion that Zero Day had used multiple groups to coordinate the London bombings, and that Clan Kelley and Albion were beneficiaries of the aftermath of the bombings.

New Scotland Yard[]

Given the fact that the Spiderbot was being used to spy on the trio by the Metropolitan Police, the player goes to New Scotland Yard to seek out more information. After infiltrating New Scotland Yard, the player finds the damaged Spiderbot being worked on. After hacking the Spiderbot and using it to shock the person working on it into unconsciousness, the player guides it out of the secure room through overhead vents. The player then collects the Spiderbot and escapes the station.

Lambeth Bridge[]

After escaping New Scotland Yard, Bagley informs the player that the Spiderbot had a satellite-based global positioning system module that regularly pushed its coordinates to a ground station located near Lambeth Bridge.

Upon reaching the area of the ground station, the player has to cause a trap to explode in order to destroy the Closed Circuit Terminal that was locking the doors. After hacking into the CTOS Hub of Lambeth Bridge, the player hacks into the ground station's camera.

The player then downloads a nearby audio log. The audio log reveals the mystery police officer to be former Metropolitan Police inspector Kaitlin Lau. She had been investigating Mary Kelley, the leader of Clan Kelley, for a while, along with a few of her colleagues, going to apparently great lengths even if they were unconventional. To learn more, the player downloads a nearby video log.

In the video log, Inspector Lau can be seen telling the details of a possible deal between Clan Kelley and Albion. Allegedly, the deal seems to be regarding human trafficking. Putting the European Processing Centre into perspective, Inspector Lau links that as Albion could freely arrest anyone off the street and call them "illegal immigrants" or "potential DedSec insurgents" despite not being any of the two. As Albion moves the arrested people to the European Processing Centre, Clan Kelley becomes free to also kidnap such people, and taking them somewhere. However, Inspector Lau is keen to find out where they are being taken exactly, as well as why. She places the blame on Mary Kelley, and ultimately decides to conduct 24/7 surveillance on her. The video log then stops recording.

The player then decides that they need to put a stopping to this matter, which begins the next mission "Lost in the Process".

Kaitlin Lau's Log #1[]

A video log recorded in Kaitlin Lau's bunker.

Audio  Name: Kaitlin Lau's Log #1
 Author: Kaitlin Lau

Kaitlin:
This is Inspector Kaitlin Lau--... Well, former inspector now, since Albion's coup. The Met is no more. The police brass had already buried the evidence anyway. Everything implicating Albion and Clan Kelley in the bombings... But I know Mary Kelley's band of twats were involved. And they're involved in other crimes we CAN look into. Me and a few good mates are willing to go off-book... Going after Mary Kelley again... I'll never fucking learn, will I?
