Vehicles in Watch Dogs: Legion can be acquired by summoning, hijacking from the world, or stealing from parking spots. A vehicle in an operative's trait can be summoned while playing as that operative (such vehicle will despawn after swapping to another operative). Most motor vehicles can be hijacked from the street, with the exception of Targ 536-TT, De Vale VK7, Landrock EL-7 Police, Landrock EL-7 Undercover Police and MatarHorn Arbiter; the aforementioned vehicles only spawn at specific parking spots (the latter three also from pursuit). Specific to each vehicle, spawning other than summoning occur only in specific areas.

Autodrive is available on most vehicles, though player only has control over it on cars and while driving them. Unless the vehicle is summoned, autodrive will automatically turn on after player switches vehicle or swaps operative, causing the vehicle to wander off and eventually despawn. Motor vehicles controlled by NPCs become aggressive after detecting gunshot or explosion, often crashing into pedestrians and other vehicles, including the player. In contrast, motor vehicles in autodrive do not react to gunshot or explosion, and will become idle for a while after taking damage, sometimes causing traffic jam.

Vehicles are vulnerable to explosions. One explosion, whether lethal or shock, can wear off most of any vehicle's durability and cause puncture to a motor vehicle, rendering the vehicle virtually unusable. When vehicles are destroyed by explosion (such as by explosive cargo, Electro-Shock Trap or missile), vehicles themselves explode instantly, making operatives inside "critically injured" or "dead". Only when player's vehicle is detonated by another player, can their operative safely escape their vehicle; an exception to this is missile from Counter Terrorism Drone, which leaves operatives in vehicle "critically injured" even when fired by another player.
